SOTD, June 12- I’m Goin In, Drake Ft. Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy

Today’s SOTD goes in and is a loud kick ass song. This song comes off of Drake’s album So Far Gone which was released back in 2009. This song is fast paced, with perfectly time bars from all three rappers. With a loopy but hard chorus, Lil Wayne has a huge impact, but all Drake and Jeezy both drop great verses as well. With a choppy beat to back up the rappers. All this song is missing is some actual singing in it, but no song is perfect. This 8-year-old song is one that we can all rap and dance to because the song just has that type of energy, and when you listen to it after this, you’ll be doing it as well. Until next time thank you for the read, and I hope to see you soon!

SOTD, June 11- School, Calvin Harris

Today’s SOTD isn’t very quoteable, but is a quick song that you can play on repeat for days. This 11th song off of 18 Months is one that starts quickly and ends quickly, not wasting a single second of the 108 seconds (1:48) the song goes for. It may not a long song, and if you listen to the album it may surprise you at first, but this song is a treat, and should be listed like it is one as well. Until next time thank you for reading and have a great day I hope to see you soon!

SOTD June 10- XXX. (Feat U2), Kendrick Lamar

Today’s SOTD comes off of one of the biggest albums of 2017. This song is one of that you have to listen to a couple times to catch everything. This song covers a lot of topics, such as Donald Trump, Black Power and even more in the 4:42 seconds it is. This song gets more intense, and then when U2 comes over at the end the song takes a new swing. This song will make you think a bit, but has can become catchy. Until next time Thank you very much for the read and I hope to see you again!

AOTW, June 9th- Currents, Tame Impala

For my first AOTW, Currents is one of the few albums that no matter how many times I listen to it, I still get chills in my spine from hearing it. This album is strong in almost all aspects, but the most important are how constant it stays. The album is formatted where is there is a song that is around 4-7 minutes, and then the next song after that is 1-3 for the most of the album. Only the last four songs differ from this pattern. But another touch that makes this album special is how each song can work off one each other, and that there is a little bit of everything. For example, song number 6 Gossip is a short song that if the album is listened in order leads perfectly into the next song The Less I Know the Better. Yet not all the album is like that, which makes it unique. Every song is it’s one journey, and this album goes by way faster than you would think. This album has strong lyricism, great beats, and background sound. This may not be a party album, but it is on that I could talk about forever, and every track is good enough that I could make an SOTD for all of them. But until next time, thanks for the read and I hope to see you soon!

SOTD, June 9- Smuckers, Tyler, the Creator

“10 years down the line… Smuckers is going to be legendary.” This Friday’s SOTD is one that in my opinion will be a classic. The 11th song on this album, Tyler the Creator brings on two powerhouses in rap with Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Now this song is very simple but starts with a somewhat complex beat behind Kanye West’s old-school type verse. After we get a blast to the past in Kanye’s style the song start to become more heroic as the horns blow louder and Lil Wayne takes over. This song is powerful due to how effortlessly it fits together. It becomes almost a conversation between Wayne and Tyler, and it is just fun to listen to them both go off and have great verses. It’s a fun song, but one not to be taken lightly. The process to this song and the album Cherry Bomb can be found here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adqH75zeiKk&spfreload=1). Until next time, thank you very much for the read and I hope to see you soon!

SOTD, June 8- Clubhouse, Mac Miller

For today’s SOTD, I’m throwing a very mellow tune out for everyone. This track that appears right after the hit song of the album Weekend is one that can follow up that powerful of a track. Mac Miller’s flow is relaxed, as he almost talking to us like we are in a conversation. The funky beat has a relaxed and poppy feel to it, which compliments his flow extremely well. This song is one you can listen to if you love a great beat behind a song, or if you want some clean and finished bars by Miller. I personally love this song due to how relaxed it is, it’s a fun listen to which is great for a time with friends, or even a bonfire. A rap song at a bonfire crazy I know. Until next time thank you very much for the read and the time, and tomorrow is my first album of the week as well so stay tuned!

SOTD, June 7th- All We Got, Chance the Rapper

“So we might as well give it all we got.” For todays SOTD I went with my favorite Chance song. Due to the announcement that Chance was this years recipient of the BET Humanitarian award, I felt it would only be fair to honor it with my small little blog post. All We Got is a song that every good playlist should start with. The beginning trumpet by Donnie Trumpet can get you ready to do anything. The song is inspiring, and only grows with passion as song flows. With features from Kanye West and Chicago Children’s Quior, this song is one you can sing you’re heart out to or use to pump you up before an event. Until next time, thanks for the read and I hope to see you all soon!

SOTD, June 6th- The Youth, MGMT

An older song, this song of the day is 10 years old, but it still sounds like something from 2017. This third song on the album Oracular Spectacular takes a backseat to the two major hit songs on this album, Electric Feel, and Kids. This almost four-minute secret masterpiece is one that blossoms from a quiet anthem to a beautiful soul grabbing electronic hit that can put a smile on people from any age. In my opinion, this album deserves some remembrance and longevity for the hits it created that we still listen to today. This song may be ten years old, but it won’t stop me and you from jamming to it in 2017. Until next time, thank you very much for the time and the read, and I hope to see you soon!

SOTD, June 5th- Location by Khalid

For my first Song of the Day (SOTD for short), I’m going to go with something safe but somewhat new. This popular song by Khalid is a must listen to. As a nineteen-year-old Khalid’s breakout track is one that puts his location on the musical map. With a catchy hook and perfectly powerful but not overpowering memory makes this a song that will stay in your head for the rest of the day. This song is one of the many great tracks on his debut album American Teen. One thing that Khalid represents is a new generation of R&B, and even with a pop like feel in this song, his lyrics and timing make this a great R&B song. Now Khalid is going on tour, and I’m pissed that I didn’t get a ticket in Chicago to see him. For more about Khalid and his music, follow his hilarious Twitter @thegreatkhalid. Until next time, thanks for the read and I hope you enjoy the music!
